KISS: “Love Gun”

The Hook: Paul Stanley wrote the song but Ace Frehley came up with the guitar solo, which the two guitarists performed together.

Album: Love Gun

Year: 1977

Writer: Paul Stanley

Stats: Peaked at number-55 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Background: “Love Gun” wasn’t a huge hit at the time of its release, but like many of KISS’s best tracks, it’s endured in their live show to this day, and continues to receive radio airplay. Onetime lead guitarist Ace Frehley talks about his and Paul Stanley’s contributions to the song.

“I wrote that solo and that’s a real classic Ace solo. Paul wrote the song and it’s a great song. Me and Paul kind of complement each other. I’m playing higher inversions, he’s playing lower ones. Y’know, that was something we did over the course of many years and it seemed to work.”
