Fleetwood Mac: “Don’t Stop”

The Hook: A positive message for the band when it was needed most.

Album: Rumours

Year: 1977

Writer: Christine McVie

Stats: Peaked at number-3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Background: With Christine and John McVie separated after eight years of marriage, and the band’s other couple, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, also no longer together, drummer Mick Fleetwood recalls that Christine’s optimistic song meant a lot to everyone in Fleetwood Mac.

Mick Fleetwood on the message of “Don’t Stop.” OC:…give up. :30

“The sentiment of that song was important. It was not an easy period for Fleetwood Mac emotionally. It was very hard working in the studio with everyone breaking up with each other. Never at one moment did we give up, and that’s what that song is simplistically all about. There is always another tomorrow and that’s all we can really do as people is to live our lives for the moment and be as positive as possible — always to look forward to something and not give up.”
