Fleetwood Mac: "Dreams"
The Hook: Stevie Nicks's demo recording of it was "interesting" and didn't exactly scream "number one hit."
Album: Rumours
Year: 1977
Writer: Stevie Nicks
Stats: Amazingly, Fleetwood Mac's only number-one single in the U.S.
Background: Bassist John McVie explains that "Dreams" began as a very minimal Stevie Nicks demo. He describes that recording and how the song grew out of it.

“The demo of that is quite interesting. It’s Stevie sitting at a piano with two fingers going bom-ding, bom-ding, bom ding-ding bom. And that was the demo and then she had the lyrics and the melody and we just sort of played along and flowed into it."
