Billy Idol celebrates his 62nd birthday today (November 30), and even decades after breaking out with Generation X, he shockingly still looks the same, which is probably how he got away with playing himself in The Wedding Singer.
This got us thinking about other film roles from rock stars. In honor of Idol's birthday, here are six other awesome acting cameos from rock stars.
Billy Idol – The Wedding Singer (1998)
Idol playing himself in The Wedding Singer is simply brilliant. Plus, the disdain with which he says “CD players” is something that always made this writer laugh.
Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament – Singles (1992)
Who could forget Vedder, Gossard, and Ament as members of the Matt Dillon-fronted Citizen Dick in Singles?! Coincidently, Vedder is also set to have a cameo appearance in the upcoming Twin Peaks revival.
David Bowie – Zoolander (2001)
Yes, yes...we know this might be a controversial pick considering Labryinth and The Man Who Fell To Earth, but frankly, we just needed a good laugh right now.
Meatloaf - The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Sure...Eddie's fate was a bit grizzly, but this might be one of the most underrated numbers from the whole movie.
Flea – Back To The Future Part 2 (1989)
Without a doubt his first big film role, Flea portrayed Douglas J. Needles in Back To The Future II and III, who, of course, is a total bully a la Biff Tannen.
Alanis Morissette – Dogma (1999)
Morissette doesn’t utter a single word in her role as God in Dogma, arguably Kevin Smith’s best film. (Yes, better than Clerks! I said it!) Nonetheless, she’s remarkably powerful.
Alice Cooper – Wayne’s World (1992)
There are few scenes more quotable than this gem that finds Wayne and Garth backstage hanging out with Alice Cooper, so much so that Alice himself has said on multiple occasions that fans still come up to him this very day to reenact it. The best part? He actually obliges! Man…I don’t think any of us are worthy.
