Dead & Company's John Mayer made a not-so-long but certainly strange trip on Tuesday (December 5) -- to the hospital in New Orleans, where he underwent an emergency appendectomy.

The band announced the news, as well as the postponement of its show that night at the Smoothie King Center, via social media, promising that "the rescheduled date will be announced as soon as possible" and offering refunds to fans who preferred that route.

No updates have been released about Mayer's condition, and it's not known if he'll be able to finish the Dead & Co. tour, which has shows on Thursday (December 7) in Orlando, Fla., and Friday (December 8) in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The group has already played a dozen shows on its fall tour, which began November 12 in New York.
