The Rolling Stones performed “Let’s Spend the Night Together” on The Ed Sullivan Show. Mick Jagger was asked to tone down the song’s lyrics to “let’s spend some time together,” but on the air, he mumbles the controversial line to the bewilderment of all concerned. Petula Clark was also on that night. The Sullivan staff had no problem with her “Colour My World.”
