Creedence Clearwater Revival: “Travelin’ Band”

The Hook: Baby, that is rock ‘n’ roll.

Album: Cosmo’s Factory

Year: 1970

Writer: John Fogerty

Stats: A double-A-sided single with “Who’ll Stop the Rain,” it reached number-2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Background: In the late ’60s and early ’70s, CCR were rarely off the road, yet they managed to release three hit albums in 1969. Little wonder that John Fogerty was ready to scream when Creedence recorded “Travelin’ Band” in early 1970.

“It’s another good rock and roll screamer. No holds barred, pedal to the metal. I start screaming at the beginning and I’m still screaming at the end and it there’s anything left I take a bow and kind of dissolve off the stage. It’s a little bit fantastic version of what happens to a band on the road — the travelin’ band, all of ’em. The hotel situation, the radio situation, the limo, all the rest, it’s just sort of a picture of the crazy life of a touring band.”
