Steve Miller:
"Take the Money and Run"

The Hook: Wonder what would have happened if he hadn't switched things around.

Album: Fly Like an Eagle

Year: 1976

Writer: Steve Miller

Stats:
Peaked at number-11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Background: You probably know Steve Miller's 1976 hit "Take the Money and Run" and his next single that year, the chart-topping "Rock'n Me," but Miller tells us the songs have more in common than just being hits.

Steve Miller on what ties “Take the Money and Run” and “Rock’n Me” together. OC:…them work. :20

“The funny thing about ‘Take the Money and Run’ was that originally ‘Rock’n Me’ and ‘Take the Money and Run’ were – the music was opposite. So I was singing ‘Rock’n Me’ on top of ‘Take the Money and Run’ music and ‘Take the Money and Run’ was originally written on top of the rhythm track for ‘Rock’n Me’ and I changed them and that’s what put them together. It made them work.”
