ZZ Top: Legs

And she knows how to use them.

Released: 1983 (1984 as a single)

ZZ Top

Stats: “Legs” was the Texas trio’s first Top 10 hit, peaking at number-eight in 1984.

Background: “Legs” was the third single from Eliminator to use Billy Gibbons’ classic Ford in its video. The song was also a first in ZZ’s career, as it was re-mixed for release as a single. The success of “Legs” kicked Eliminator’s sales into high gear — it was certified four-times platinum by the end of 1984. Eliminator eventually sold more than 10-million copies.

Billy Gibbons on ZZ Top’s image and how they were different from other acts in 1983, around the release of Eliminator. OC:…such popularity. :33

“The unusual image that we now maintain and have maintained since before Eliminator was seemingly at odds with the style and fashion of 1983. We certainly weren’t big hair bands. We were cowboy hats and long beards, which was kind of juxtaposed against the fashion of the day. And then when the success of the record took hold, it was a little ironic that something so unusual and so different would be embraced with such popularity.”
