Modesty Ponchos
Divine Child High School in Dearborn is getting ready for their senior prom and the school has a strict message for the girl students…
Officials at the Catholic high school are planning to dole out “modesty ponchos” to girls whose prom dresses are deemed too revealing. The ponchos recently appeared on display at Divine Child High School in Dearborn. A nearby note reads: “If your dress does not meet our Formal Dance Dress Requirements – no problem! We’ve got you covered – literally. This is our Modesty Poncho, which you’ll be given at the door.” The note ends with a smiley face.
Theology teacher Mary Pat O’Malley is the brains behind these ponchos telling Fox2 “We are trying focus on the inner beauty and not draw attention to something that doesn’t need attention drawn to it,” O’Malley told WJBK. “It was really intended as a deterrent and a light hearted one at that.”
The ponchos have not gotten the support that the school was looking for….
Twitter user @JennyLessnau wrote: “I really have a problem with the fact that if you happen to have big boobs at DC, and wear a dress that is even a little low, that will warrant a ‘modesty poncho’ EVERY time. they basically body shame girls if they’re bigger than a B cup.”
Here is what they look like:
They are called “Modesty Ponchos” by administrators at Divine Child Catholic High School. It’s new this year to keep female students in line with the dress code at prom. What do you think? pic.twitter.com/hd2NM3CvKP

Students at a high school in Dearborn will be evaluated by teachers before prom. If their dresses aren't appropriate, they'll be given a Modesty Poncho:https://t.co/N0TGp5KJom pic.twitter.com/CuTW57M4ya
