Hook: Slash says it was totally meant to be tongue-in-cheek.

Released: 1987

Album: Appetite for Destruction

Writers: Izzy Stradlin and Slash

Stats: Only released as a single in Britain, here it was the B-side of both "It's So Easy" and "Welcome to the Jungle."

Background: "Mr. Brownstone" is a song that's been played live at almost every Guns N' Roses show, and by nearly all the former members' at their concerts as well. Slash remembers writing it.

Slash on writing “Mr. Brownstone.” OC:…out cool. :23

“That was me and Izzy. That was actually a tongue-in-cheek song about our sort of creative, uh… Y’know, we were hanging around basically getting high and playing guitar and came up with these lyrics for ‘Mr. Brownstone.’ And Izzy had this main opening riff and then just sat there together and turned that into a song and throwing the words back and forth. But it was very tongue-in-cheek, but it turned out cool.”
