One of the biggest men’s health news stories that has been shared so far in 2018 is the continued research and trials around male birth control pills.

A recent study presented at the 2018 Endocrine Society meeting this past March showed research behind a male birth control pill called dimethandrolone undecanoate (DMAU), which helped reduce the testosterone and other hormone levels that lead to sperm production and did so without serious side effects.

As with female birth control, DMAU did have similar side effects when it came to decreased libido.  The study reported about nine percent of test subject reported decreased libido, while 15% of women who took part in a birth control study from the European Journal of Contraception and Reproductive Health Care reported decreased libido.

Long story short:  We’re still a ways away from male birth control pills potentially hitting the market, but in honor of Men’s Health Month, we pose this question:

Will male birth control pills become a reality?
