RIP Matt “Guitar” Murphy

Anyone that’s a Blues Brothers fan is likely mourning and drowning their sorrows in white bread, toasted, dry with nothing on it and four whole fried chickens and a Coke.

Over the weekend, Matt “Guitar” Murphy passed away at the age of 88.  His passing was confirmed on Facebook by his nephew Floyd Murphy Jr.  The cause of death is unknown at this time.

Murphy was best known as being a member of the Blues Brothers band and appeared in the classic 1980 film The Blues Brothers and its sequel Blues Brothers 2000 where his wife was notably played by Aretha Franklin.

Murphy’s career was much more than the Blues Brothers.  He was also a sideman who worked with a number of legends including Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters.

Wherever he is, we hope he’s jammin' with "Joliet" Jake right now.
