Eagles played a benefit concert for California U.S. Senator Alan Cranston at Long Beach Convention Center. It would be their undoing, as Glenn Frey, who arranged the show, and Don Felder, who didn’t want to play a political rally, threaten each other throughout their performance. Although it never boiled over to fisticuffs, the band announced its breakup — which would last 14 years — a few days later.
