While there was drama with some other bands that night, Skynyrd’s set went off without a hitch, with members old and new coming together to honor the band’s remarkable legacy.
Guitarist/bassist Ed King, who passed away Wednesday (August 22) at the age of 68, was in attendance and performed that night, and Rock Hall President and CEO Greg Harris issued the following statement yesterday in response to the news of King’s death:
“Inductee Ed King’s guitar was the note you heard first and what stuck out in a song. From co-writing “Incense and Peppermints” to picking the signature lick of “Sweet Home Alabama,” King’s riffs and arrangements completed Lynyrd Skynyrd's distinct sound and continue to influence generations of guitarists.”
