Bowie contacted a mutual friend, MTV 120 Minutes host Matt Pinfield, to make the connection, which Pinfield details in his book All These Things That I’ve Done: My Insane, Improbable Rock Life.
According to Pinfield, Bowie said, "I know you're friends with Scott Weiland. Please let him know that I'm here to talk if he needs someone."
Weiland was a huge fan of Bowie's music, having covered several of his songs, including "Jean Genie," "Ashes to Ashes," "Andy Warhol," and "Fame.
