WCSX Classic Cuts : All Good People
WCSX Classic Cuts
Yes: “All Good People”
The Hook: The band’s audience were “all good people.”
Album: The Yes Album
Year: 1971
Writers: Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Bill Bruford and Tony Kaye
Stats: “Your Move,” the first section of the two-part “I’ve Seen All Good People,” was released as a single and gave Yes their first Top 40 hit in America…barely. It peaked at number-40 on the Billboard Hot 100. Part two, “All Good People,” was never released as a single.
The Background: Yes may have been known for their musical and lyrical complexity, but their former singer Jon Anderson says there’s nothing complicated about what inspired “All Good People,” the second section of “I’ve Seen All Good People.”
Former Yes singer Jon Anderson on “I’ve Seen All Good People.” OC:…gotta go. :19
“That was a sort of a rock and roll lick that Chris came up with that punctuated his phrase. And all, really, we were thinking was that the audience were all the good people we keep playing to and we’ll come back and play to you again someday, y’know. ‘I’ve seen all good people’ getting high and having a good time and we’ll come and see you again. ‘So satisfied I’m on my way. Gotta go!’”
