Where Did Slash Get His Name?
Slash didn’t always go by Slash. He was born Saul Hudson. But even though that is the name on his driver’s license, no one calls him that.
Speaking to Steve Jones on “Jonesy’s Jukebox”, the Guns N’ Roses guitarist reveals where the name actually came from.
“My best friend’s dad is a really cool actor named Seymour Cassel. Whenever I used to go over there, he used to just call me Slash,” he says. But why Slash? When the pair met years later, Cassel admitted it’s because young Slash was “always hustling and s**t.”
As for who still calls him by his birth name, there aren’t many left, according to Slash. “My dad calls me Slash, my mom calls me Slash. I think the last person that really called me Saul was my grandmother. Rest in peace.”
