Only Eat Factory-Wrapped Treats — Yeah, it’s great that people want to offer up healthy alternatives or home made treats, but it’s not the safest option. Opposite idea, if you’d rather not hand out candy, hand out non-food related items.

This year marks the 9th "Treats for Troops" campaign which allows parents to donate the unwanted Halloween candy to troops over seas.
Bouchard is asking that you donate your extra candy to the Oakland County Sheriff's office along with notes of thanks and encouragement. "Treats for Troops" is a great way for a parent to participate in a community event with their kids, while helping out our troops, said Bouchard.
Schools also have the chance to donate. The Sheriff’s Office will also accept school candy donations that are delivered to their office headquarters by 4:00 p.m. on November 5th.
Individually wrapped, non-chocolate candy can be donated at the following Oakland County Sheriff’s Office locations:
