WCSX Classic Cuts

Cream: “White Room”

The Hook: Inspired by something that took place in a room in Sheffield, England, but that’s all its co-writer will say about it.

Album: Wheels of Fire

Year: 1968

Writers: Jack Bruce and Pete Brown

Stats: Peaked at number-six on the Billboard Hot 100

Background: Cream singer-bassist Jack Bruce tells us, yes, he knew the room that inspired their hit “White Room,” and then laughs, as if to say he knew it very well. But he’s hesitant to share the details of exactly what took place there, other to say that something did.

Cream singer-bassist Jack Bruce on the inspiration for “White Room.” OC:…took place. :13

”That is about an actual room. There is a room in a town, Sheffield, in England, which that is about. It’s simply that. But it’s not really a story line as much as just a set of images, really, about a particular event that took place.”
