This is not your typical K9 Unit.
Police officers at La Vista Police Department in Nebraska are doing what they can to help dogs from the local shelter find loving homes. They call it "K9 For A Day"
The officers are going as far as taking these dogs on ride alongs around town to raise awareness and hopefully find them forever homes.
The department decided to start taking dogs out regularly after the success of their first ride along with Mickey, a bully breed, who was adopted a few days after his ride along.
The Department Captain, Officer Bryan Waugh, said the dogs aren't the only ones who benefit from this experience, K9 for a day is also great for their department. The dogs riding along spark interest among the community and help officers connect with citizens while seeming more approachable.
Officer Jeanette had a new partner on October 11. His name is Mickey and he is a six-year-old Bull Terrier Mix. He is available for adoption from the Nebraska Humane Society. For more information about adopting Mickey, visit www.nehumanesociety.org/mickey.
