• Royal Oak is Home to the Detroit Zoo.  The Detroit Zoo has more that 2,400 animals and 235 species!  The Detroit Zoo was the first zoo in the nation to use Barnes’s exhibits extensively.  The Detroit Zoo has been open since 1928!
• The Royal Oak Farmers Market started out in trucks in 1925.  The present structure at 11 mile and Troy Street was built in 1927.
• Glenn Frey, founding member of The Eagles was raised in Royal Oak.  Glenn went to Dondero High School.
