Docs Love To Rock and Funerals, Too
Rock music has no limits, from operating rooms to funeral homes…
According to Men’s Health, a recent survey revealed that 90% of surgeons listen to music in the operating room. 49% of them listen to rock songs. Their favorite rock tunes include:
1- Rock You Like a Hurricane – Scorpions
2- Sweet Child O’ Mine – Guns N’ Roses
3- Break on Through (To the Other Side) – The Doors
4- Paint It, Black – The Rolling Stones
5- Whole Lotta Love – Led Zeppelin
6- We Will Rock You – Queen
7- Back In Black – AC/DC
8- Should I Stay or Should I Go – The Clash
9- Like A Rolling Stone – Bob Dylan
10- Rebel Rebel – David Bowie
Yes, there is also a top 10 list of rock songs commonly played at funerals.
According to Co-Op Funeral Care, research has found that half of adults believe music provides a feeling of nostalgia at ceremonies; a third of them said it makes them happy, another third said it makes them sad and only 14 percent said they would laugh. Meanwhile, just over a quarter of adults said they’d want to make people laugh at their own funerals.
The Co-op’s director of funerals said, “We all live such unique lives and funerals should completely reflect that. Each element of a funeral is a very personal decision, which is why the music choice plays such an important and impactful role.”
Now maybe rock and roll at a funeral doesn’t seem so strange; the obvious #1 is Stairway to Heaven, but Queen actually appears 40 percent of the time on the list.
