The Mets Made A Morbid Mistake
This weekend the Detroit Tigers paid tribute to the 1984 World Series winning team, and the Mets also lauded former champions, recognizing the 1969 team on Saturday for its 50th anniversary. There were a couple problems with their celebration however, they declared two very much alive players as deceased. One of those players resides right here in Metro Detroit.
76 year old Jim Gosger who now lives in Port Huron was a former reserve outfielder, and was not invited to the gathering. Instead, he was noted with Hudson in the “We Remember” video memorial as those who had passed away, along with players such as Danny Frisella and Cal Koonce — who actually have passed away.

Gosger still lives in the house he grew up in Port Huron with his wife, Kathleen, and their four cats and three dogs. His four daughters and one son also live in southeast Michigan.
The Mets did try to rectify the situation.

Gosger played 10 regular-season games for the Mets late in the ’69 season. After the World Series, Gosger received a playoff share of about $100, but never got a championship ring. Sunday he received a phone call, he will get his championship ring.
