Today (December 3) is Ozzy Osbourne’s birthday, and with the announcement of the 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class happening in the very near future, this is the perfect time to look back on when Black Sabbath was finally inducted in 2006.

Sabbath was inducted by Metallica’s James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, with Hetfield delivering a rather heartfelt speech that saw the frontman get choked up and Ulrich taking the Rock Hall to task about the band’s induction eleven years after their eligibility.  (WARNING:  Some NSFW language ahead.)

When it came time to accept their awards, the heavy metal pioneers kept it short and sweet thanking their families, their friends and the fans.

Metallica then took to the stage to perform two Sabbath classics, “Hole in the Sky” and “Iron Man.”
