UPDATE: She has been located and safely returned to her owner. Turns out, Darwin was just playing in the neighbor's sprinkler.
Darwin, a missing Milford emu, has had enough of the stay home, stay safe order.
The bird that stands about 6 feet tall and weighs between 125-140 pounds, now found out how to escape her backyard off Old Plank Road between Buno and Maple Road.
"Emus like to rub along the fence, we have a dog kennel latch and if you don’t lock, she’ll walk against it and she’ll unlock it," owner Susan Churchwell said. "She puts her weight into it and it's happened before. She accidentally unlocks, and she says, 'OK, I’m free! And she usually gets out and chases some deer and gets lost."
The last time the 8-year-old Darwin escaped was about three years ago, and she was found in a backyard about a mile away.
Susan Churchwell said the family got Darwin as a baby from Craigslist. They previously had a male emu for whom Darwin was a companion. The emus were a compromise for Churchwell's father, who wanted an ostrich.

Now here is the animal Ryan saw outside of the studios yesterday morning. He claims it’s a Black Panther.
