WCSX City of the Week – The Big Cruise!
The Big Cruise Factoids
- The Cruise began in 1995 as a charity fundraiser to build funds for soccer fields in Ferndale. It was meant as a one time event where they hoped to draw 30,000 people… 250,000 showed up.
- The cruise is always held on the third Saturday in August. Last year 1.5 million people and 40,000 classic cars took part in the cruise.
- The cruise begins near 8 Mile and takes a 16 mile loop between Ferndale and Pontiac, passing through Ferndale, Pleasant Ridge, Berkley, Huntington Woods, Royal Oak, Birmingham, Bloomfield Township, Bloomfield Hills and Pontiac.
- The Big Cruise is the largest single-day classic car event in the world…. in past years it has brought more than $50 million annually to the Metro Detroit economy.
