Freddie Mercury would have turned 74 years old on Saturday so we thought we'd look back at some isolated vocals from one of the greatest singers of all time and a tribute from Brian May

First check out this gem, "We are the Champions" in vocals only!

Check out this tribute from Brian May over the weekend.

Finally the raw vocals for Queen's "Somebody to Love" have been given to us! In the 5 minute song Freddie is heard without his band behind him and it is something you will listen to over and over again!

In 2016, a team of Austrian, Czech, and Swedish researchers went through hours of footage of Freddie to help explain his voice and this is what they found:

Based on 6 interviews, Freddie’s speaking voice and vocal frequency determined that he wasn’t the tenor we thought he was – he was a baritone.

He sang in sub-harmonics, a style not used by humans unless they’re Tuvan throat singers, which is one particular variant of overtone singing practiced by people in Mongolia, Inner Mongolia, Tuva and Siberia

Freddie’s vocal chords moved faster than those of most humans; in fact, it was determined that he had a faster vibrato than even Luciano Pavarotti, moving something in his throat that not even the opera singer could.

Hey It’s Ryan, let me start off by saying…YES, I was born and raised in Wixom, Michigan although a lot of listeners like to joke that I am from Arizona. WCSX has always been my radio home, I have been at the station since I was a 23-year-old intern, co-host of Big Jim’s House, married with kids. Family and radio are what I love, but don’t get me started on golf! Like some, I have become obsessed with golf and you can hear all about that on “The Ball Washer Pod” right here on WCSX. One of my other passions is helping out the Vets. Since coming to WCSX I have been apart of raising hundreds of thousands for local vet groups. Other than that, I am a goofy guy, loving life, my family and talking to you on the radio. Ryan writes about golf, family and what happens on “Big Jim’s House.”
