Sammy Hagar, the former singer for Van Halen, took to social media shortly after news broke confirming the death of Eddie Van Halen.

Hagar shared a photo of him with EVH along with the caption, "Heartbroken and speechless. My love to the family."

Hagar famously replaced David Lee Roth as Van Halen's singer in 1985. He would front the band for four studio albums:  1986's 5150, 1988's OU812, 1991's For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge and 1995's Balance. Hagar would exit Van Halen in 1996.

Van Halen passed away today (October 6) following a bout with cancer at the age of 65. His death was confirmed by his son, Wolfgang, who wrote on social media, "I can't believe I'm having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I've shared with him on and off the stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don't think I'll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop."
