Bands That Hate Their Own Songs
Some of the biggest classic rock songs are actually hated by their creators!
Check this list of the who and whys behind it:
Stairway to Heaven- Led Zeppelin: Robert Plant thinks that the song’s instrumental sections were top notch, but found that he could no longer relate to its abstract lyrics. He once said “I’d break out in hives if I had to sing that song in every show.”
Pinball Wizard- The Who: Pete Townshed has publicly called Pinball Wizard “awful”. Even though the song is a Who classic, Townshend still thinks it’s “the most clumsy piece of writing I’ve ever done.”
Cherry Pie- Warrent: Jani Lane hates his own song so much that he openly says “I had no intention of writing that song,” and “I could shoot myself in the head for writing that song.”
Don’t Stop Me Now- Queen: Guitarist Brian May didn’t like the song at first. May felt the track endorsed the risky lifestyle Freddie Mercury was living at the time. May did eventually have a change of heart and called the song a piece of “unfettered joy”
All I Wanna Do is Make Love to You- Heart: One of Heart’s biggest songs, but Ann Wilson calls the track a low point of the band’s career. During an interview Wilson called the songs message “hideous” and went on to say “There was a lot of pressure on us to do the song.”
