Longtime NHL announcer Mike "Doc" Emrick is retiring as a broadcaster after 50 years in the booth...

Affectionately known as "Doc" for his doctorate in communications, Emrick, 74, has been the preeminent voice for NHL games on NBC and NBC Sports for 15 years.

He was also the longtime announcer for the New Jersey Devils.

Doc called 22 Stanley Cup Finals and won eight Sports Emmy Awards for play-by-play, including seven straight from 2014 to 2020. He was also part of six Olympic Winter Games.

After calling an estimated 3,750 games during his career, Emrick will continue to write and narrate video essays as part of NBC Sports' NHL coverage.

Doc has made his home in Michigan, living in Port Huron and has a special connection to WCSX.

Back when we made Bob Seger Boulevard a reality we had different celebrities and friends of Seger tell us a little story about Bob and Doc told an amazing story of his time with Bob.

Hey It’s Ryan, let me start off by saying…YES, I was born and raised in Wixom, Michigan although a lot of listeners like to joke that I am from Arizona. WCSX has always been my radio home, I have been at the station since I was a 23-year-old intern, co-host of Big Jim’s House, married with kids. Family and radio are what I love, but don’t get me started on golf! Like some, I have become obsessed with golf and you can hear all about that on “The Ball Washer Pod” right here on WCSX. One of my other passions is helping out the Vets. Since coming to WCSX I have been apart of raising hundreds of thousands for local vet groups. Other than that, I am a goofy guy, loving life, my family and talking to you on the radio. Ryan writes about golf, family and what happens on “Big Jim’s House.”
