Canadian Pacific Holiday Train Won’t Run in 2020– First Time in 21 Years
After 21 years of trudging along the northern United States and across Canada,
The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train has taken festive attendees along the northern United States and Canada for 21 years, but it will come to a halt in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Holiday Train got its start in 1999 with the goal to raise awareness of the importance of local food banks and raise funds and collect food.
Over the years, the Holiday Train has collected 4.8 million pounds of food and raised $17.8 million for food banks on its route.
“COVID-19 has created many challenges for communities across our network and has only increased the need at local food banks and food shelves,” said Keith Creel, Canadian Pacific president and CEO, in a statement.
He added, “It is our honor to continue to donate to communities across our network this year, even if the train itself will not run. The spirit of the Holiday Train program and the Christmas spirit will carry on this year through our virtual concert. We will have the Holiday Train rolling again spreading Christmas cheer as soon as it’s safe to do so!”
While there won’t be the traditional train this year, the organization will host a benefit virtual concert. For more information, go here.
