Novi Factoids – CSX City of the Week
Congratulations to Novi,
You’re the WCSX City of the Week!
Novi Factoids:
- The city is located on Walled Lake which lies mainly within Novi and is the largest lake in the city. Several smaller lakes within the city were created by gravel pit mining or as storm water retention areas.
- Novi is sometimes referred to as “Little Tokyo” for their welcoming attitude toward Japanese nationals. Novi has the largest Japanese population of any Michigan municipality. Novi is also home to the largest Japanese festival in Michigan.
- Novi was not named after the 6th toll gate (No. VI) on the Grand River toll road. The township was named in 1832 and the toll road was not constructed until the 1850s. Novi was chosen by the townspeople who wanted a short name for road signs.
