Pornhub users may be alarmed or annoyed to learn that the adult video website has removed all of the unverified and illegal content from the platform.

They explained the decision to do so in a recent blog. They state, “As part of our policy to ban unverified uploaders, we have now also suspended all previously uploaded content that was not created by content partners or members of the Model Program. This means every piece of Pornhub content is from verified uploaders, a requirement that platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat and Twitter have yet to institute.”

They added, “Leading non-profit organizations and advocacy groups acknowledge our efforts to date at combating illegal content have been effective. Over the last three years, Facebook self-reported 84 million instances of child sexual abuse material. During that same period, the independent, third-party Internet Watch Foundation reported 118 incidents on Pornhub. That is still 118 too many, which is why we are committed to taking every necessary action.”

Pornhub also details two groups spearheading the campaign against them, which are National Center on Sexual Exploitation and Exodus Cry/TraffickingHub. Both groups focus on banning obscene material, shutting down sex work, and getting rid of porn altogether.

Pornhub adds, “These are the same forces that have spent 50 years demonizing Playboy, the National Endowment for the Arts, sex education, LGBTQ rights, women’s rights, and even the American Library Association. Today, it happens to be Pornhub.”

Buzzfeed News points out that last week there were 13.5 million videos searchable on the site. Now, there are about 2.9 million.

And according to Complex, Pornhub’s decision to make these changes came after Visa and Mastercard began investigating their business relationships with the website over concerns they had illegal content. They lastly add that there was an instance where a missing 15-year-old girl from Florida appeared in 58 sex videos on the site before that content was removed.
