If you were hoping to make it to Canada later this month, it doesn't look like that's in the cards, as the coronavirus (COVID-19) travel restrictions at the Canada-U.S. land border are being extended for another month.

The news, which came from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today (Jan. 12), means the current border restrictions will remain in effect until at least Feb. 21, 2021.

Trudeau said this "important decision" was taken to ensure the safety of citizens on both sides amid the pandemic.

"Our focus since the start of this pandemic has been protecting you and your family. Whether by procuring vaccines or by bringing in strict travel and border measures, our priority is your safety," Trudeau said.

As of today, there have reportedly been more than 670,000 COVID-19 cases in Canada and more than 17,000 deaths. The U.S. reportedly has more than 22 million COVID-19 cases and more than 376,000 deaths.
