Daylight Saving Time starts this Sunday, March 14, at 2:00 a.m.

If you have a hard time remembering whether we're gaining or losing an hour, remember the old saying, "Spring forward, and fall back." That's what my mom has always told me!

Set your clocks that aren't on a smart device ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday night.

A little history: Daylight Saving Time was first instituted by the federal government as a way to save coal during World War I. It started in the spring of 1918 and was only supposed to last during wartime.

It obviously stayed a lot longer. Today, states have the final say on if they want to participate. Hawaii and most of Arizona do not participate, because they have so much sunlight. American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands don't practice it, either.

As someone who absolutely loves rock, metal and alt music, she instantly fell in love with radio and hasn’t looked back. When she’s not working, Anne makes her own music with her band, Upon Wings, and she also loves cheering on her favorite Detroit and Michigan sports teams, especially Lions and MSU football. Anne is also an award-winning journalist, and her byline has run in a variety of national publications. You can also hear her weekends on WRIF.
