The elusive number one hit was finally achieved by Bob Seger with this song from the Beverly Hills Cop II soundtrack. Although Bob doesn’t consider it a signature song, it was nominated for an Oscar for Best Music, Original Song. Glen. Frey was originally slated for the song but developed laryngitis right before recording so Bob was brought in. Bob reworked the lyrics to fit his style saying, “ There were a lot of lyrics about working undercover, I didn’t like them, so I threw them all out. I decided to write it my way and they trusted my judgment.”
