A number of Michigan beaches are closed due to an increased bacteria level.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has closed a total of nine Michigan beaches for high bacteria levels, as of late in the day July 1.

According to the department, the majority of the increased bacteria levels is because of the recent heavy rains, which is pretty normal.

Park Lake - Bath Township Park Lake Beach
Handsome Lake - Crossroads For Youth
Crooked Lake - Independence Oaks County Park
Lake St. Clair - St. Clair Shores Memorial Park Beach
Silver Lake - City Park Beach
Ross Lake - Beaverton City Park
Elizabeth Lake - ECHPOA
Grand Traverse Bay-East - Bayside Acme Township Park
Grand Traverse Bay-East - East Bay Park (Milliken Park)
