Royal Oak has kicked off its own "social district," letting visitors purchase and drink alcoholic beverages from participating bars and restaurants and walk around to other participating spots.
Royal Oak's social district includes more than 35 restaurants, bars, and venues.
"District boundaries will be clearly marked with signs, indicating if people are leaving or entering," a press release states. "Participating businesses will have a sign indicating they are part of the social district."
Royal Oak joins more than 40 social districts in Michigan. These districts are legal thanks to some legislation that moved last year letting Michigan liquor licensees offer to-go and expand outdoor seating during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Royal Oak's Social District is active from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. For a list of rules and more, head to romi.gov.
