The City of Detroit Announces New Police Chief
The City of Detroit has announced a new chief of police, and he’s a familiar name: James White.
The news came during a press conference Monday (Aug. 23), in which Mayor Mike Duggan formally introduced his selection for Detroit Police Chief. White will be instated, pending city council approval.
Detroit was looking for a full-time chief following the retirement of James Craig in May.
After Craig’s retirement, White stepped in as interim police chief. He was in the running for the job, competing against prospects in a nationwide search from the Board of Commissioners.
