There’s no denying that winter is on the way. In Michigan, that means to get ready for snow- and a lot of it. While much of Michigan has yet to get any accumulating snowfall this season, one northern Michigan city has actually already set a new snowfall record.
Tuesday night (Nov. 2), the National Weather Service office in Gaylord, Michigan, had recorded 11 inches of snow since 6 p.m. Monday. By Wednesday morning, they recorded that 11.7 inches of snow fell at the Gaylord office in the 24 hours ending at midnight Tuesday night.
The 11.7 inch showing makes it Gaylord’s snowiest November day since the NWS started recording snowfall there in 1998. The previous November record was set on Nov. 18, 2014, with 10.7 inches. The records also show that Tuesday was Gaylord’s sixth-snowiest day of any month.
To say that I’m not ready for snow and ice is an understatement. I really don’t like anything about the cold weather that’s upon us, but for those who love making snow angels and doing sleighrides, get ready for the most wonderful time of the year.
