Michigan Stimulus: Here’s Who Gets a $1,400 Check in 2022
Select Michiganders will receive additional stimulus money in 2022, which might sound surprising, but it’s true. Since the federal government isn’t likely to send out a fourth stimulus check at this time, this is probably one of the last of the stimulus checks we’ll see for a while. That said, keep an eye out if you’re expecting one.
The checks will come in 2022, so not in time for the holidays, but they should add a nice cushion in the new year.
So, who qualifies? People eligible for additional relief money are parents who gave birth to a child in 2021. The parents are eligible to receive payments up to $1,400 from the third round of stimulus checks, which were issued in March. It’s all part of legislation that was already passed, but new parents might not be aware they qualify, which is why we’re getting the word out. If you know of a new parent, let them know.
To get the payment, parents of the newborn child need to file a tax return for 2021 in 2022, so they can claim the money in 2022. Those eligible for the full $1,400 include single parents making up to $75,000 per year and couples earning up to $150,000 per year. As mentioned, these are likely the only stimulus checks people will receive in 2022.
Parents of 2021 newborns also eligible for the expanded child tax credit, which is also part of the federal government’s stimulus package. For information on the expanded child tax credit, go here. Some new parents could have already gotten the payments or part of the payments. New parents could have opted to inform the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) about the baby on the way to receive the monthly tax credit installments in 2021, but you can still get the entire $3,600 credit when you file your 2021 tax return in 2022 and claim the baby as a first-time dependent.
