Initially, Michigan drivers were expected to get their $400 refund checks from the Catastrophic Claims Association later next year, but now, it appears the money is coming sooner. The sooner the better, right?

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently asked the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services to send a bulletin to insurers about when the refund would come and what the requirements are for the refund.

Now, Whitmer has issued a statement saying the $400 refunds will come no later than May 9, 2022. A total of $3 billion in refunds are going to drivers from the MCCA. The refunds will go to policyholders for each vehicle that was insured as of 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 31, 2021.

“Michigan used to have the highest auto insurance rates in the nation, but we worked together to put Michiganders first, significantly lowering the cost of insurance and putting $400 per vehicle back in driver’s pockets while continuing to provide access to the most generous benefits in the nation,” Whitmer said in a release.
