I remember when my wife and I watched the first movie and my wife was broken hearted and actually cried when Gandalf fell to the Balrog. She turned to me, who actually read the books many times, and asked with tears coming down her eyes, “Does he come back?” It touched my heart too much to not tell her that, yes, he returns later.
Another time I told my daughter that I was going to give her the “one ring” and it would make her invisible. She was excited and put the ring on and I pretended like she wasn’t there. But, she misbehaved at some point and I took the ring away and hid it. She became enraged and literally attacked me like Gollum. She really believed in the power of the ring and I learned quickly what the ring can do!
