The NHL is shutting down the Detroit Red Wings through at least Sunday (Dec. 26) via the National Hockey League's COVID-19 protocol.
According to the league, the decision was "due to concern with the number of positive cases within the last several days, as well continued COVID spread" in the Red Wings organization.
According to the NHL, the decision was made between the league in conjunction with its medical group, plus the NHLPA’s and the Red Wings' medical groups.
Detroit recently put Red Wings players Sam Gagner, Pius Suter and Joe Veleno, plus assistant video coach Jeff Weintraub, in the NHL's COVID-19 protocol.
