Bonus Tracks:
There is a ridiculous amount of songs with “love” in the title. More than we have time to play in 5 hours, but we still want to throw a spotlight on them. Here are some staff bonus “love” tracks:
“All You Need Is Love” – The Beatles
Album: Magical Mystery Tour – The Beatles played “All You Need Is Love” for the first time on the “Our World” project, the first worldwide TV special. It aired in 24 countries in 1967. The show was six hours long with music from 6 continents.
“Dirty Love” – Frank Zappa
Album: Over-Nite Sensation – Tina Turner and the Ikettes did uncredited backing vocals on the entire album.

“I’ll Fall in Love Again” – Sammy Hagar
Album: Standing Hampton – This album was HUGE for Sammy’s career. It became his first RIAA-certified album, ultimately going platinum. “I’ll Fall in Love Again” went to #2 on the Top 40 Mainstream Rock chart (“There’s Only One Way to Rock” reached #31).
“I’m Not in Love” – 10CC
Album: The Original Soundtrack – Eric Stewart wrote this song for his wife, but the song almost didn’t happen. “We were about to scrap it and wipe the tape but, as I walked around the studio, I heard the secretary singing it and the window-cleaner whistling it. I knew we had a tune: we just hadn’t captured it properly. Kevin suggested doing it again, but with banks of voices. I thought that meant hiring a choir, but Lol Creme, our keyboard player, said we could do it using tape loops.”
“Love is Alive” – Gary Wright
Album: The Dream Weaver – The title track has been more enduring, but both songs peaked at #2. “Love is Alive” spent 27 weeks on the chart, seven weeks longer than “Dream Weaver”. Billboard ranked “Love Is Alive” as the 9th biggest song of 1976.
“Could You Be Loved” – Bob Marley & The Wailers
Album: Uprising – “Don’t let them fool ya! Or even try to school ya!” One of the greatest opening lines ever. Many have theories as to what this song is about… love, faith, struggle, but Marley never gave a definitive answer.
“Put a little Love in Your Heart” – Jackie DeShannon
Album: Put a Little Love in Your Heart – Jackie said of writing the song, “I owe some of that to my mom, because she was always saying that people should put a little love in their heart when things are not so good.”
Sea of Love – The Honey Drippers
Album: The Honey Drippers Volume One – This lineup was rock star-packed: Robert Plant, Nile Rodgers, Paul Shaffer, Jeff Beck, and oh yeah, Jimmy Page. This started with Plant and his pick-up band that covered 50’s songs. The original “Sea of Love” was written and performed by John Phillip Baptiste, his only hit.
