Detroit St. Patrick's Day Parade Back for the First Time Since 2019

The Detroit St. Patrick's Day Parade is back in 2022, marking its big return. This year's event will be the first parade since 2019, after being postponed due to the pandemic.

The parade, but on by the United Irish Societies, will happen along Michigan Avenue in Corktown beginning at 1 a.m. Sunday, March 13. Expect marching and pipe and drum bands, floats, clowns, color guard units and more. Approximately 100,000 people usually attend the parade.

“On behalf of the United Irish Societies, parade sponsors and participants, we’re thrilled to be back and know this year’s event will be better than ever with all of the positive momentum in Corktown for everyone who lives, works and spends time there,” Mike Kelly, UIS president, said in a statement.

Peggy Gray will serve as the grand marshal of the parade. “For 61 years, the St. Patrick’s Parade has brought together people of all cultures and nationalities in metro Detroit to celebrate Irish culture and make lasting memories,” she said. “I look forward to continuing that tradition this year. This parade is a great time to celebrate Corktown, Detroit, and the positive momentum in the Corktown area.”

If you're anything like me, you're ready for spring. I can't wait for spring to officially arrive and scare away any final snowstorms. But, we're in Michigan, and you never know when cold weather will pop up and surprise us, even well into spring.

Here in Michigan, we aren't exactly known for our warm weather. But, we have all the seasons, which makes it a beautiful state that will always keep you on your toes. It's no big surprise that most of the warmer cities are in the southern part of the state. What is surprising, though, at least to me, is that the average temperature doesn't vary too much across the state. I thought there would be major discrepancies, but there really aren't. And, while the highest average temperature is fine, I wouldn't mind it being a few degrees warmer, at least if that means a shorter winter.

"The tables give the normals for maximum and minimum yearly temperatures based on weather data collected from 1991 to 2020 by the US National Centers for Environmental Information," Current Results states.
