One of my favorite things about any given city is the riverwalk. No matter the town, chances are you'll find a fantastic riverwalk to enjoy on a sunny spring day.

In Michigan, we have plenty of great riverwalks. Lansing's riverwalk has an incredible river trail that gives you a perfect view of the city and Grand River. The other major cities throughout Michigan also have their own, special riverwalks.

Now, the Detroit Riverwalk has been named the best riverwalk in America for the second straight year. The showing is part of the 2022 USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice Awards contest. The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy announced the good news Friday. Nominees for the awards were picked by 10Best editors. Then, the general public voted on the their top picks throughout the competition. In total, 20 riverwalks around the country were nominated. Detroit was the only Michigan representative.

“We are thrilled to be voted number one for the second year in a row,” Matt Cullen, board chairman of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, said in a statement. “This is going to be a big year for us as we break ground on new projects, mark the completion of our East Riverfront vision and make plans for our 20-year anniversary in 2023, so it is incredibly rewarding to be able to celebrate the Best Riverwalk honor during this special year.”

“The entire Detroit Riverfront Conservancy team is proud to be recognized again on this national level,” Mark Wallace, president and CEO of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, added. “This honor is also very exciting because we are being recognized as the Best Riverwalk based on the votes submitted by people throughout our community who voted for us. Detroiters love their riverfront.”

It's a wild time to buy a house. The prices seem to just keep going up and up, with no end to this housing bubble in sight. I would love to buy my first hour, but like many, I'm being forced to wait until the housing market drops a bit, and it's anybody's guess when that will happen.

If you are buying a house right now, you should make sure it's in a good place to live, since you're likely paying a pretty penny for it. Thankfully, the folks at Niche.com have done the homework to determine the best places to buy a house in Michigan. They recently released a list of the best places to live in the state, factoring in both cities, suburbs, towns and city neighborhoods.

"The Best Places to Buy a House ranking provides a comprehensive assessment of the housing and community of an area," they explain the in the study. "This grade takes into account key factors of a location’s housing market, including home values, taxes, crime rates, and quality of local schools, in an attempt to measure the quality and stability of an area’s real estate market." They also look at aspects such as home value to income ratio, public schools grades, monthly housing costs, the cost of living, the higher education rate, the median home value and much more. Statistics are mainly obtained from the U.S. Census and represent the most recent data available, they state.
