Michigan Weather Forecast for May – Here’s What to Expect

It's been a pretty chilly April in Michigan, aside from a few random 80-degree days. It's safe to say that weather hasn't been normal in Michigan for a while. So, what's ahead?

As it turns out, May in Michigan will offer some interesting trends. We're not expected to get normal temperatures, but thankfully, as the summer moves closer, we can be sure about saying farewell to snow once and for all for this season. Here's what's on tap weather-wise for May in Michigan.

Looking at the extended, 30-day forecast via Weather.com, temperatures will be below normal for much of the month. That's not a happy thing, at least for me. If you're planning to plant a garden this year, you're best to wait until any threat of frost is over, and that would put you at the end of the month or possibly into early June. I've been waiting on planting some wildflowers for a while, but I'm probably going to wait until at least Memorial Day weekend.

According to projections, the biggest threat of frost will be the first week of May. Temperatures will dip down to 40, which means if they get a bit colder, things could freeze. Also, projections have the third week in May dipping down to the 40s for much of lower Michigan. As for highs, much of lower Michigan is expected to have below-normal temperatures until the last week of May. But, that doesn't mean we're going to be cold. Since it is May, below-normal temperatures mean around the lower-60s for much of lower Michigan, in comparison to the usual temperatures of the mid-to-upper '60s. If we hit 60 instead of 65 some days, I don't think there will be much complaining. Towards the end of May, highs are expected to be right at normal, if not a little higher, in the mid-'70s. Just wait it out a few weeks, because summer and its warm weather splendor is coming.
