First Photos: Michigan Timber-Towered Suspension Bridge, the World’s Largest
SkyBridge Michigan is scheduled to open this fall, and the much-anticipated attraction will be the world’s longest timber-towered suspension bridge. How cool is that? The bridge will be located at Boyne Mountain Resort in Boyne Falls, Michigan between the peaks of McLouth and Disciples Ridge.
Once it opens in the autumn, the pedestrian bridge will be accessible throughout the year and offer incredible views of surrounding Boyne Valley and the rolling hills of Northern Michigan. The bridge, designed by Experiential Resources, offers a 1,200-foot-long, 5-foot-wide suspended walking surface. The height of the bridge’s suspended walking surface is 118 feet above the valley floor.
“With its timber-frame design, the bridge is a nod to the logging heritage of Northern Michigan,” a press release states of the bridge. “Anchoring both ends of the bridge are wooden timber towers, approximately 52-feet high and nearly 70-feet long made from wood sourced by long-time partner in resort growth, Matelski Lumber, from surrounding Boyne Falls, Michigan. Exciting construction update: all four of the bridge’s towers have been carefully strapped up, lifted, and placed in their final resting spots.”
